The court sentenced husband Salauddin alias Tony (35) to death in the case of wife murder in Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon. At the same time he has been ordered to pay a fine of 50 thousand rupees. Naogaon District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Abu Shamim Azad passed the verdict on Monday (April 22).
Salahuddin, who was sentenced to death, is the son of Azizar Rahman of Muradpur village of Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj district. He was present in the court when the verdict was pronounced.
District and Sessions Judge Court Public Counsel Abdul Khalek confirmed the matter and said that the court has given the death sentence as the charges against the accused have been proven beyond doubt. He has also been fined.
According to the court and case statement, in 2019 Salauddin of Muradpur village of Nachol upazila of Chapainawabganj got married to Tukajjeba (24) daughter of Abu Kalam of Dhansa village of Niamatpur upazila. He used to abuse his wife physically and mentally since marriage. On June 29, 2020, the woman came to visit her father’s house in Dhansa village of Niamatpur with her husband. On 1 July, Salahuddin cut his wife Tukajzeba’s throat with a pair of scissors while staying at her in-laws’ house due to a family dispute.
That day at around 5:30 am, the father and mother of the victim tried to open the door of the house from outside after hearing the sound of screams. At one point, the neighbor Rabiul Islam broke the door and entered the house and found Tukajzeba in a bloody state. At this time, he saw the scissors in Saladin’s hand. After being rescued and taken to Niamatpur Upazila Health Complex, the doctor declared him dead. While fleeing, the local people caught the husband and handed him over to the police.
Abu Kalam, the father of Tukajzeba, who was killed in this incident, filed a murder case against the killer at Niamatpur police station. After the investigation, the police officer investigating the case filed a charge sheet under Section 302 of the Penal Code in the court on June 22, 2022. Out of the total 18 witnesses of the state side, 15 witnesses were accepted in the court. After the long testimony of the state and the accused, as the charges against Salahuddin were proved beyond doubt, the Judge of the District and Sessions Court, Abu Shamim Azad, ordered the accused to be hanged and executed. At the same time, he was fined 50 thousand rupees.
Public Counsel (PP) Abdul Khalek of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court heard the case for the state and State appointed lawyer Atiqur Rahman heard the case for the accused.
Public Counsel Abdul Khalek said that after all the evidence, the charges brought against the accused have been proven beyond doubt, so the judge awarded the maximum punishment to the accused. In the judgment, subject to the upholding of the death sentence in the High Court Division, the accused Salahuddin should be hanged till death. This lawyer thinks that this verdict will be a precedent in the case of murder.
