The court has sentenced 14 accused to life imprisonment, including former 3-time chairman of Kalibazar Union Parishad of the same upazila, Sekander Ali, in the case of murder of Chhatra Dal leader Parvez of Ardash Sadar Upazila of Comilla.

Judge Nasreen Jahan of Comilla’s Additional District and Sessions Judge 2nd Court gave the verdict on Monday (April 22) afternoon.

Advocate Shariful Islam confirmed the matter. Of the convicts, 11 were present in court and 3 are absconding.

The convicts are the deceased of Kalir Bazar area of ​​Kotyali police station of Comilla district. Abdur Rahman’s son. Sekander Ali (64), son of Abdul Latif of the same area. Shaheen (39), son of Abdus Sattar of Syedpur area. Saddam Hossain (32), Kamalapur area. Son of Mozammel Haque. Saiful Islam (21), son of deceased Ahmad Ali of Jashpur area Mofiz Bhandari, Kamalapur Dakshinpara area. Joynal Master’s son. Kaiser (32), son of deceased Monir of Kamalapur area. Riaz (33), Billal son of Shafiq member of Manshasan area, Kamal Hossain son of deceased Abdur Rahman of Kamalapur area, Abdul Ohed son of Kalir Bazar Union. Ibrahim Khalil (45), Mehedi Hasan son of Imdadul Haque of Raichon area, Zainal Abedin son of deceased Sirajul Islam of Syedpur area, Abdul Quader son of deceased Harun Or Rashid of Mainamati Union of Burichong upazila, Anwar son of Ashrab Ali deceased of Narayonsar area.

According to the information of the case, on June 10, 2020, the then UP Chairman Sekander Ali and his cadres brutally beat the Chhatra Dal leader Parvez to death and cut his hands and feet in the south side of Kamalapur Bazar of Kalir Bazar Union of Kalir Bazar Union of Comilla District.

In that incident, the victim’s wife filed a complaint at the Kotyali Model Police Station. Later, when the real facts came out in the investigation of the case, the investigating officer himself filed the case as a plaintiff. However, during the course of the case, the court accepted the testimony of 30 people.

The court of Comilla gave this verdict after a long testimony at 4 pm on Monday.

Meanwhile, Hasina Begum, the wife of deceased Parvez expressed her displeasure with the verdict and said, “I want all the accused to be hanged, they have brutally killed my son-in-law.” I will go to high court for justice.
