Scorecard of the game

Rob Yates’ unbeaten 84 ensured Warwickshire’s top three sides averaged more than 100 after their first three County Championship games, but that would not prevent an inevitable draw with Hampshire.

Yates, opening partner Alex Davies and No. 3 Will Rhodes are the top four run-scorers in Division One so far this season, with averages of 123, 120 and 116 respectively.

All three tried to increase the run rate in hopes of finishing well in the Utilita Bowl, but in the end, heavy rain won the game and the scores were split.

Warwickshire’s 13 points and Hampshire’s 10 points remain unbeaten after three rounds.

With the visitors opening the day with a 136-run lead, Davies added two more runs to his tally before moving Mohammad Abbas to third to end a 56-run start. He has scored 481 runs so far this season and is at the top of the charts.

Yates was tasked with keeping the scoreboard moving, with proper offense coming from the other end, Rhodes, Ed Barnard and Dan Mosley not needing a second invitation.

Rhodes scored 348 runs in the Championship, but 25 of his 39 runs came from Liam Dawson’s passes.

Yates and Lord combined for 46 points, while Yates and Barnard continued with 54 points.

Bernard scored 18 off 17 balls from Dawson and the left-arm spinner himself fell under Dawson.

After taking a quick shot at 14, Mousley dropped from midfield but at 14:00 BST drizzle stopped play.
