Afzal Hossain, an Ansar member who was in charge of security at the residence of the Bandar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Narayanganj, died of his own shotgun blast.
When he was taken to Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) hospital around 7 pm on Monday, the doctor declared him dead.
Mirazul Islam, a colleague of the slain Ansar member, said, Afzal Hossain and some of us were on duty at the UNO house in Bandar. After starting duty in the afternoon I suddenly heard a gunshot. Then we ran and saw Afzal lying with a bloody head. When he was quickly taken to Dhaka Medical, the doctor declared him dead.
Deceased 25-year-old Afzal Hossain is a resident of Mirsarai Upazila of Chittagong.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bandar police station. Golam Mostafa said that the Ansar member was on duty at the UNO house in the port. In the afternoon, he shot himself in the head with his shotgun. However, efforts are underway to find out what caused the incident.
Before shooting himself in the head, the officer wrote ‘No one is responsible for my death’ on the wall of the residence, he said.
Bandar Upazila Executive Officer MA Muhaimin Al Jihan told reporters, I was not at the residence at the time of the incident. Afzal started duty around 4 pm. Half an hour later, he shot himself in the head with a shotgun. After getting the news, I went there and saw him lying in a bloody state. He was first taken to Bandar Upazila Health Complex and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He died there.
A shotgun and a shell were seized. UNO Muhaimin Al Jihan said that a committee will be formed to investigate the incident.
