Detective police have arrested a man on the charge of killing the security guard of Madhumati Bank’s ATM booth in Gulshan in the capital, saying that the young man tried to rob the booth after watching YouTube.
On Monday, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police gave information about the arrest of the young man named Ariful Islam. However, the information about when and where he was arrested was not given.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Haroon Or Rashid said in a press conference at the DMP Center at noon on this day that the young man wanted to sell his kidney once after incurring losses in various businesses. Due to the pressure of the creditors, the young man who was in debt was separated from his family and relatives and was hiding in different parts of the capital for a long time.
In the early morning of April 10, Hasan Mahmud, a security guard working in the ATM booth of Madhumati Bank located in Maisha Chowdhury Tower of Pragati Sarani in Shahjadpur under Gulshan Thana, was hacked to death. After the worker was killed, the booth was broken and an attempt was made to take money.
Intelligence officer Harun said that after verifying the CCTV footage of the murder, Ariful was arrested a few days after the incident.
Based on the information obtained during the initial interrogation of the arrested youth, he said, “Ariful used to transport furniture for various offices and homes for the last 10-12 years. Later started brick, sand, stone supply business. He lost about 15 lakh rupees in these businesses. He then left leaflets in Mirpur area about selling a kidney.”
The DB head of DMP said that Ariful saw scenes of booth robbery on YouTube while hiding in different parts of the capital under the pressure of creditors and decided to earn money easily from there.
“Therefore, after observing the bank booths in different parts of the capital, Maisha Chowdhury decided to loot the booth of Madhumati Bank located in the tower as safe.”
Narrating the incident, he said that he went to that booth after buying hammers, knives and other tools from different places. Ariful beat him to death with those weapons when he was confronted by the security personnel there. After trying to break the booth for 10-12 minutes and failed, he left by bus to Mirpur.
