Two people have died due to heat stroke in the capital due to intense heat. A rickshaw driver named Abdul Awal (45) died of heatstroke in the Dhaka Medical College Hospital area on Monday (April 22) afternoon. Earlier, a 30-year-old vagabond died of heatstroke in Jatrabari area on Sunday midnight.
Shahbag Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Suman Basak said that on Monday afternoon, the rickshaw driver Awal fell down from the rickshaw on the back road (Khichuripatti) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DHMC) Nursing College and fell unconscious on the spot. Later he was rescued in an unconscious state and taken to the emergency department of DMK Hospital where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
The SI also said that the rickshaw puller Awal might have died of heatstroke in the intense heat. His body has been kept in the mortuary.
SI Suman quoting the people around the spot said that the deceased Awal was driving a rickshaw on the road behind the nursing college (Khichuripatti) and fell down from the rickshaw after convulsions and fell unconscious on the spot.
Deceased Awal is the son of deceased Azam Ali of Sinhagram of Lakhai Upazila of Habiganj. Currently lived in Shibumarket area of Narayanganj.
On the other hand, an unidentified male vagrant died of heatstroke in Jatrabari on Sunday midnight. He was wearing a red Genji full shirt and pants.
Jatrabari police station sub-inspector (SI) Tapas Mondal said that the unidentified person fell on the road due to heat stroke after turning his head on the paved road next to the house of Abu Bakkar Siddique in Dakshin Sheikhdi No. 5 lane.
After receiving information, his body was recovered from the spot and sent to DMK morgue for autopsy on Monday morning.
SI Tapas further said that the body of the deceased had numerous old cut marks from the blade from neck to waist. In the initial investigation, the police found that the youth was vagrant and intoxicated.
