Chhatra Dal leader killed, 14 people including A.League leader get life sentence

The court has ordered life imprisonment of 14 people including Awami League leader and former UP chairman for the killing of Chhatra Dal leader in Comilla. While 11 accused were present at the time of the verdict, three were absconding.

Comilla District and Sessions Judge II Court Judge Nasreen Jahan gave this verdict on Monday (April 22). Advocate Shariful Islam confirmed this fact.

The convicts are – Haji Md. of Kalibazar area. Son of Abdur Rahman, former UP chairman and vice president of Upazila Awami League. Sekander Ali, Abdul Latif’s son and Juba League leader. Shaheen, Abdus Sattar’s son and local Jubo League leader. Saddam Hossain, Md. Saiful Islam, son of Mozammel Haque alias Musa and general secretary of Union Volunteer League, Mofiz Bhandari, son of Aham Ali, son of Joynal Master. Kauchar (runaway), son of Monir Hossain. Riyaz Riyad (absconding), Shafiq member’s son Billal (absconding), Abdur Rahman dealer’s son Md. Kamal Hossain, son of Harun Or Rashid, Abdul Quader, son of Abdul Ohed. Ibrahim Khalil, Ashraf Ali’s son Anwar, Imdadul Haque Zuru’s son Md. Zainal Abedin is the son of Mehdi Hasan Rubel and Haji Sirajul Islam.

Each of the accused was sentenced to imprisonment for life and a fine of Tk 10,000, in default of five months imprisonment.

According to the information of the case, on June 10, 2020, the then Chhatra Dal leader Parvez was brutally killed by the then UP Chairman Sekander Ali and his army cadres in the garden adjacent to the cemetery on the south side of Kamalapur Bazar in Kalir Bazar Union of Adarsh ​​Sadar Upazila of Comilla. The victim’s wife filed a complaint at the Kotyali Model Police Station. Later, when the real facts came out in the investigation of the case, the investigating officer himself filed the case as a plaintiff. However, during the course of the case, the court accepted the testimony of 30 people. After a long testimony, the court gave its verdict on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Hasina Begum, the wife of deceased Parvez expressed her displeasure with the verdict and said, “They have brutally killed my son-in-law.” I wanted the accused to be hanged. I will go to high court for justice.
