The court sentenced 14 people including the former union council chairman to life imprisonment in the Parvez murder case in Comilla. At the same time they have been fined 10 thousand rupees. In default of payment of fine, the accused were further sentenced to five months’ rigorous imprisonment.

On Monday (April 22) afternoon, Comilla Additional Sessions Judge Second Court Judge Nasreen Jahan announced the verdict in the case.

The convicted accused are – Former Chairman of Kalibazar Union of Comilla Sadar Upazila. Sekander Ali, Md. Shahin, Md. Saddam Hossain, Md. Saiful Islam, Mofiz Bhandari, Md. Kausar (runaway), Md. Riyaz Prakash Riyad (absconding), Billal (absconding), Md. Kamal Hossain, Abdul Quader, Md. Ibrahim Khalil, Anwar, Md. Mehedi Hasan Rubel and Zainal Abedin Prakash Langra Zainal.

According to the statement of the case, on the afternoon of June 10, 2020, Parvez left the house and went in front of Monir Hossain’s shop at Syedpur High School Gate. There the accused surrounded him. At that time, the accused tried to lift Parvez on the motorcycle on the instructions of the then chairman of Kalibazar Union Parishad Sekander Ali. Failing that, they took Parvez in a Maruti car from Syedpur High School to Kamal’s Chhamil in Kamalapur Bazar. There the accused Kamal and Mofiz Bhandari along with others started hitting Parvez with sharp weapons. Kamal’s elder brother Salim (deceased) shouted and chased the accused out of the ch’mil. On the instructions of Sekander Ali Chairman, the accused took Parvez to the wood garden of Mokshad Ali 200 yards east of the mill and beat him with chapati, rod and hockey stick.

Plaintiff’s lawyer. Shariful Islam said that the victim’s mother became a plaintiff in the sensational murder of Parvez and filed a case with the police station mentioning the names of 14 people. In this incident, four accused have given statement under section 164. After hearing the testimony of 31 witnesses in the case, the court sentenced 14 accused to life imprisonment. Eleven of the 14 defendants were present in court during the verdict. Three accused are absconding.

Meanwhile, Hasina Begum, the wife of deceased Parvez expressed her displeasure with the verdict and said, “I wanted all the accused to be hanged.” They brutally killed my brother-in-law. I will go to high court for justice
