The Comilla court sentenced 14 people including the former chairman of the union to life imprisonment in the murder case of Parvez in the Kalirbazar union of Comilla’s Adarsh Sadar upazila. Besides, each of them has been fined 10,000 taka.
Comilla Additional Sessions Judge 2nd Court Judge Nasreen Jahan gave this verdict on Monday afternoon. Md. Shariful Islam, a lawyer for the plaintiff in the case, confirmed the matter.
The convicts in the case are Md Sekander Ali, president and former chairman of Kalirbazar Union Awami League of Comilla Sadar, Md Shahin, Md Saddam Hossain, Md Saiful Islam, Mofiz Bhandari, Md Kamal Hossain, Abdul Quader, Md Ibrahim Khalil, Md Anwar, Md Mehdi Hasan of the same area. Rubel, Zainal Abedin, Md Kauchar, Md Riaz and Md Billal Hossain.
Deceased Md. Parvez (30) son of Abdul Momin of Kamalapur area of Kalirbazar Yuin of Sadar Upazila.
Md. Shariful Islam, lawyer for the plaintiff side of the case, said that on the evening of June 10, 2020, Md. Parvez was beaten to death by his opponent in the Kamalapur area of Kalirbazar, Adarsh Sadar Upazila of Comilla. At that time, a case was registered in the police station that the victim had been killed due to robbery. Later, the CID police investigated the case and filed a charge sheet in the name of 14 people. It is mentioned in the charge sheet of the case that on the evening of June 10, when Parvez came out of his house and came in front of Syedpur High School, the accused took him in a Marti car and beat him to death in a wooden garden.
Md. Shariful Islam, a lawyer for the plaintiff side of the case, said that after taking the testimony of 31 witnesses in the case, the court sentenced each of them to life imprisonment and fine as the charges were proved. In default, he was sentenced to five more months of rigorous imprisonment. During the pronouncement of the verdict, all were present except the accused Md Kauchar, Md Riaz and Billal.
