The court has sent the former upazila chairman and a Chhatra Dal leader to jail in the case of the murder of Sramik League leader Jahangir Alam in Lalmonirhat.

When they surrendered to the court on Monday and applied for bail, District and Sessions Judge Mizanur Rahman of Lalmonirhat refused and ordered to send them to jail, said Akmal Hossain, Public Prosecutor.

Former Chairman of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Parishad and Joint General Secretary of BNP AKM Mominul Haque and Convenor of Sadar Upazila Chhatra Dal Jahangir Khan have gone to jail.

PP said that in the Jahangir Alam murder case, accused number three is AKM Mominul Haque and accused number 28 is Jahangir Khan.

“9 accused in that case applied for bail in the court. The judge granted the bail application of seven of them.”

On October 29, 2023, a clash took place in Mahendranagar of Sadar Upazila, centered on the strike called by BNP-Jamaat and the peace rally of Awami League. In this, Sramik League leader Jahangir was injured.

Later the injured Jahangir Alam died under treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Three days after the incident, a case was registered against 81 people, including 300 to 400 unidentified people, in Sadar police station.
