A student drowned in the swimming pool of Dhaka University (DU). The incident took place at the swimming pool adjacent to the central playground of the university on Monday around 2:15 pm.
The name of the dead student is Md. Sohad Haque. He is a student of 2022-23 session of philosophy department. His village home is in Bogura district. Lived in Haji Mohammad Mohsin Hall of Sohad University.
It is known from Sohad’s classmates that he knew how to swim. It is not known what exactly caused him to drown. However, Sohad’s classmates reported that he had respiratory problems. When his classmates took him unconscious to Dhaka Medical, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
University proctor professor Dr. Maksudur Rahman said, we came to Dhaka Medical Hospital after getting the news. Chairman of Philosophy Department, Provost of Mohsin Hall also came. We have already contacted Sohad’s local guardian and family. Appropriate action will be taken.
His classmate took him to the hospital. Sohag said that many students of DU were taking a bath in the swimming pool in the afternoon. Many people were swimming there from one side to the other. But Sohad drowned in the pool water. They immediately rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical. The doctor declared him dead after examination.
Several students of the university present at the scene alleged that no staff or authority of the swimming pool gave first aid or any kind of help to Sohad. They said, when we were trying to get the water out, no one came forward. On talking about bringing an ambulance, one of them brought a rickshaw
