The main fugitive accused in the sensational Smti Puthul Rani murder case in Gaibandha, Mr. Rupen Das (34), has been arrested from Keraniganj, Dhaka. Arrested Rupen Das is the son of Khonka Das of village No. 1 Gate Railway Colony of Bonar Para of Saghata Upazila.
This information was informed in a press release signed by Mahmud Bashir Ahmed, Deputy Director (Media) of Gaibandha RAB-13 CPC-3 on Monday.
According to the notification, the accused Mr. Ruppen Das was married to the victim Mrs. Putul Rani (32), daughter of Swargiya Vishwanath of village Dhutur Bari of Gobindganj upazila of Gaibandha, about 15/16 years ago. They have a daughter in their family. Due to their poverty, both earn a living by working in Dhaka Garments.
On April 9, the victim and the accused came to their village home. Last April 11, at around 4 am, there was an argument over a family matter. At one stage, the accused Rupen Das (34) became enraged and thrashed him with abuse. At that time, when the victim protested, the accused stabbed the victim in the middle of the stomach with a sharp dagger in his hand, causing a serious bloody cut. Later, the victim was seriously injured and admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for treatment. The victim died here while undergoing treatment.
