A student named Muhammad Sawad (19) died after drowning in the swimming pool of Dhaka University (DU). The deceased student was a first-year student of DU’s philosophy department and a resident of Mohsin Hall. The incident took place in the swimming pool adjacent to the central playground of DU on Monday at 2 pm. The deceased Soad’s house is in Bogura district.
Eyewitnesses said that the deceased student jumped from the roof while swimming in the swimming pool with his friends. After jumping, he fainted in the pool water. After that, the employees near the pool rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College (DHMC) where the doctors declared him dead.
A classmate of Soad who was present at the time of the incident told The Daily Campus that Soad knew how to swim. He swims from one side of the swimming pool to the other, splashing in the water. He had asthma problems. I quickly went to him and tried to pick him up, he was holding me and going down, I could not pick him up even though I tried hard. Later I called everyone and took him to the hospital but could not save him.

Two students named Sohag and Sagar who were present at the scene said that when we were swimming with our friends in the central swimming pool of Dhaka University around noon due to the heat, Soad suddenly drowned in the water. Later, he was rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical Center where the doctor on duty declared him dead at half past two.
When asked, Shahjahan Ali, Director of Physical Education Center of DU, said that everyone was taking bath together. Suddenly such an incident happened. When he drowned in front of his classmates, the students brought him to the medical center.
Meanwhile, Shah Kawthar Mustafa, chairman of philosophy department, came to the medical school to see Swad. It is also said that the family of the deceased has been informed.
