A student named Muhammad Sawad (19) died after drowning in the swimming pool of Dhaka University (DU) with his friends. He is a first year student of Philosophy Department of DU.
He died while taking a bath in the swimming pool of the university’s physical education center on Monday (April 22).
Shahjahan Ali, director of DU Physical Education Center, told Dhaka Post about this. Currently, his body has been kept in the morgue for post-mortem.
Morshed Alam Shafiq, a student of Mathematics Department of DU, who witnessed the incident, said that the incident happened right in front of us, but we did not understand that he would die. The boy was in the eight feet deep pool. Maybe he didn’t know how to swim. I called emergency many times, but no one helped. Also, there was no one to give first aid. He was still alive when CPR was administered.
Two students named Sohag and Sagar, who were present at the scene, said that due to the heat, we went down to take a bath with our friends in the central swimming pool of Dhaka University around noon. At this time while swimming suddenly Soad drowned in the water. After that, he was lifted and pressured on the stomach to expel the water. At this time Soad was breathing. Later, when Sowad was brought to Dhaka Medical, the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost inspector Bachchu Mia said that a student was brought from Dhaka University an hour ago. That student drank too much water. Doctors declared him brought dead after post-mortem. His body is now kept in the morgue.
