Purnendu Government, Jalpaiguri: Northeast Frontier Railway has started strong efforts to reduce train accidents by applying indigenous technology ‘Kobach’. In this technology, the train will stop automatically even if the driver cannot avoid the accident by controlling the speed of the train. rail (Railway) has been in full swing for several months to implement this technology from the North-East Border Railway to enhance security.

It is known that there is no precedent of any major or minor train accident in North Bengal during Halfil. Two years ago, the speeding Bikaner-Guwahati Express train derailed near Domohani. Eight railway passengers died in it. About a hundred were injured in that incident.

On the other hand, in August last year, a newborn elephant along with its mother died after being hit by a freight train at Nagarakata in Duars. Apart from this, there is no news of any new train accident.

Meanwhile, North-East Frontier Railway has come down to improve the quality along with the maintenance of railways. The Research Design and Standards Organization under the initiative of the Railways has started the process of converting this indigenous technology ‘Kobach’. In this context, Sabyasachi De, Chief Public Relations Officer of North East Frontier Railway, said, ‘If the train driver fails to control the train himself to avoid the train accident then the accident is imminent, accident can happen at any moment. From this apprehension, accidents can be avoided by applying Kobach technology in the automatic braking system system with various signal messages.

Not only that, head-on collisions between multiple trains can be prevented. Even this indigenous technology will remain equally effective for decades to come. Eight districts from Malda to Cooch Behar, Darjeeling hills under North East Frontier Railway are rapidly developing this indigenous technology. North East Frontier Railway plans to bring 1,966 km of railway track under Kabach technology in their division.
