The dead were identified as four race officials and a spectator, in addition to an eight-year-old girl, the report said. However, an investigation has been launched into the condition of the driver in the accident and whether he will be prosecuted.

Police spokesperson Nihal Taldua said the accident took place when the car jumped from the moving lane and moved to another place.

However, according to eyewitnesses, the accident happened soon after another car overturned on the track.

This is not the first time that the Sri Lankan Army has organized such an event. But there was no race in the last five years.

This time about 45 thousand spectators went to watch the race. Shortly before the accident, the army chief announced that common people can watch the race for free. The door has been opened for them. After the announcement, thousands of people gathered on both sides of the track. Then the accident happened.
