Heat wave is going on in almost all the districts of the country. People are panting in the heat. Among them, three people died in summer in Meherpur, Sylhet and Narsingdi districts.

They died at various times from Sunday morning to noon.

The rising temperature since the beginning of Baisakh has disrupted public life for the past few days.

Public health experts say that there are various health risks in intense heat including heat stroke, dehydration.

Meherpur

A housewife died while working in her yard in Gangni upazila of Meherpur.

The deceased 45-year-old artist is the wife of Abu Taher of Ruerkandi village of Sholtaka Union of Khatun Upazila and the daughter of Billal Malitha of neighboring Amtail village. Artist Khatun has two sons.

Artist Khatun’s cousin Tshalima Khatun said, like last few days, intense heat started from Sunday morning. Meanwhile, the artist Khatun was working in the courtyard of his house. He suddenly died of a stroke.

This relative said that artist Khatun was sick with fever and vomiting for 3 days in the heat.

Sources from the Chuadanga Meteorological Office said that since the last few days, intense heat has been blowing over Meherpur and neighboring Chuadanga districts. The temperature in Meherpur district was 42.3 degrees Celsius till 6 pm on Saturday. The public life of people of all classes and professions, including working people, has been disrupted due to intense heat.

Meherpur District Commissioner Shamim Hasan said that the district is experiencing the highest temperature in the country. Meanwhile, the UNO and the health officer have been instructed to confirm whether the death of the woman in Gangni upazila was due to heat stroke.

Sylhet

A rickshaw driver died after falling unconscious on the road in Sylhet city.

Deceased Abu Hamid Mia (34) of Shibpur village of Lakhai upazila of Habiganj. Son of Karam Ali.

Yardous Hasan, OC of Dakshin Surma Police Station, said that an unidentified rickshaw driver fainted in front of the police box near Kazirbazar Bridge in Dakshin Surma. Later the locals rescued him and sent him to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.

“Preliminarily, it is believed that he died of heatstroke. The body has been kept at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue. Hamid’s family members have been informed.”

Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital Deputy Director Soumitra Chakraborty said, “The temperature at which heatstroke is supposed to occur; Sylhet does not have that temperature. But it is difficult to call heat stroke death without knowing how long he drove the rickshaw or what was his body condition.”

Narsingdi

A young man died after fainting in the heat in Sadar Upazila of Narsingdi.

Deceased Safqat Jamil Iban (30) son of deceased Zakaria of Bhagirathpur village of Madhavadi police station. He was engaged in the business of ready-made garments.

The relatives said that Iban returned to his home after the wedding ceremony from his uncle’s house in Narayanganj in the morning. He felt ill since his return. When he was taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, the doctor declared him dead when he was physically very ill.

Bashar, a doctor at Sadar Hospital, said, “The family informed that Iban fainted due to intense sun exposure and heat.” He died before he could be taken to the hospital.

“Based on information provided by the family, the exact cause of death could not be determined immediately, although it initially appeared to be heatstroke.”
