Several people have been arrested in three cases for allegedly killing two brothers and assaulting the police on suspicion of arson at a temple in Panchapalli village of Dumain Union in Madhukhali, Faridpur. However, the police are not releasing these names for the sake of investigation. Three cases were registered at Madhukhali police station last Friday night. However, the local police administration is very passive in the brutal murder of two brothers on suspicion. Despite the incidents of killings and attacks on the police, the local officials including Madukhali Police Station OC Miraj Hossain are failing to take legal action against those involved.
Superintendent of Police of Faridpur district Mohammad Morshed Alam told Inqilab that several people have been arrested in three cases of killing two brothers and attacking the police on suspicion of arson at a temple in Panchapalli village of Dumain Union in Madhukhali. However, these names are not being disclosed for the sake of investigation.
According to police sources, the plaintiff in a case is Tapati Rani Mal (47), wife of Prabhas Chandra Mal, resident of Krishnanagar village, Pujari of Panchapalli Sarvajanin Kalimandir. He filed the case after someone set fire to the sari worn by Kali Pratima in the temple between 6:30 and 7:00 pm last Thursday.
The plaintiff of the second case, father of two brothers Ashraful Khan (20) and Asadul Khan (18) who were killed in the beating, said that Choperghat village of Naopara union of Madhukhali upazila. Shah Jahan Khan (46). Unknown persons have been accused in this case.
The plaintiff in the third case is Shankar Bala, SI of Madukhali police station. In this case, charges of injuring 10 policemen including the OC of that police station, obstructing government work, damaging government property and arson have been brought. 31 people have been named as accused in this case. Besides, unidentified ‘many others’ from Madhukhali and Baliakandi have been made accused.
Madukhali Police Station OC Miraj Hossain said that some people have been arrested in this incident. 10 people are being detained and interrogated at the police station. Incidentally, on Thursday night, an idol was set on fire at the Panchapalli Sarvajanin Kalimandir of Dumain Union in Madhukhali. Four construction workers were injured in the attack by local residents. Later two brothers Ashraful and Asadul died at Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital.
