At the beginning of the day, the heatwave swept through 49 districts of the country, but by Sunday evening, it has spread to two more districts, the Meteorological Department reported.

In the evening bulletin of this day, the organization said that a very intense heat wave is flowing over Pabna and Chuadanga. And intense heat waves are blowing over Rajshahi, Tangail, Jessore and Kushtia.

Apart from this, mild to moderate heat wave is flowing over the rest of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions including Moulvibazar, Chandpur districts. The same situation prevails in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barisal divisions.

The highest temperature in the country was recorded at Chuadanga at 42.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The highest temperature recorded in Dhaka on this day was 38.2 degrees Celsius.

A mild heat wave is considered when the air temperature is below 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. Temperatures less than 38 to 40 degrees Celsius are called moderate and temperatures less than 40 to 42 degrees Celsius are called severe heat waves. And when the temperature rises above 42 degrees, it is called extreme heat wave.

Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana said, “This trend of heat wave continues due to lack of rainfall. Such heat wave may continue till April 23-24.”

Reminding that April is the hottest month, he said, “Such a trend of heat wave is normal in this month. Last year, the highest temperature was recorded at 43 degrees Celsius in Ishwardi, while Dhaka reached 40.6 degrees Celsius.

“The temperature is trending higher again. The temperature may drop after a few days.”

Heat wave starts in different parts of the country from the first week of April. In this season, the highest temperature was recorded on Saturday; On that day, the mercury rose to 42.6 degrees Celsius in Jessore. And the maximum temperature in Dhaka was 40.4 degrees Celsius.

The government has announced a seven-day holiday in schools and colleges on Saturday due to the intense heat. The next day, various universities informed about the decision to conduct classes online.

Three people died in Meherpur, Sylhet and Narsingdi on Sunday due to heatstroke. At least two people died on Saturday.

In the forecast for the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Department has said that there may be temporary rain with gusts and wind or thunder in one or two places in Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions.
