As Indian green chillies enter the market, prices of domestic green chillies have started to fall.

Today Monday in the capital’s Karwan Bazar, desi pepper is being sold at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg.

However, pepper imported from India is being sold at 180 to 200 taka.

Vendors say that the price of Indian pepper has fallen due to the entry of Indian pepper into the Bangladeshi market.

Yesterday, raw chilli was sold at Tk 350-400 per kg in Karwan Bazar. The previous day, pepper was sold at Tk 600 per kg.

Bakul Debnath, a wholesale pepper seller told The Daily Star, ‘The price of desi pepper may come down further. Today, pepper is being bought at wholesale level in the local market at Tk 110. Along with other expenses, the price will be 120-130 taka. It will be sold in the market for 140-150 taka.

Chilli trader Solaiman told Daily Star, ‘We are selling raw chillies at Tk 150 per kg today. I brought 1 thousand kg. Now there are about 20 kg. 500 kg was sold yesterday. By reducing the price, sales have also increased.

Another pepper seller. Bached told the Daily Star, ‘India’s pepper prices will remain a little higher. Because India’s demand for pepper is a bit high. Because this chili is a bit too spicy.’

There has been volatility in the pepper market for the past few days. In some parts of the country, up to 1000 rupees per kg of chilli has been sold.

On Sunday, raw chillies were sold at Bagerhat at the rate of Tk 600 per kg. Varieties were sold in Pabna at Tk 400 to Tk 600, in Bogra, green chillies were sold at Tk 250 to Tk 350, in Faridpur at Tk 600, in Rajbari, green chillies were sold at Tk 500 per kg. In 5 upazilas of Jhenaidah, raw is sold at 700 taka. However, Shailkupa sold for 800 to 1000 taka.

According to the sources of the Directorate of Agricultural Extension, 28 thousand 410 metric tons of green chillies have been allowed to be imported this year.
