A young man was killed by slitting his throat in Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj.

Kotalipara police station OC Muhammad Firoz Alam said that the incident took place at Jathia village of the upazila around 3 pm on Sunday.

The deceased Ashok Mandal (35) is the son of Kalachand Mandal of Jathia village of that upazila.

Ashok’s mother Urmila Mondal said, “I fell asleep around 10 o’clock. At that time my elder son Ashok and younger son Asim Mondal were watching TV. Then around 3 o’clock in the night, I was suddenly woken up by the screams of the little boy.

“Then my younger son Asim was screaming holding Ashok’s throat cut body on the balcony of the house. We then left to take Ashok to the hospital and he died as soon as he left the house.”

Ashok’s brother Asim said, “A person entered the house and punched Ashok’s throat. The miscreant punched me and ran away after hearing the screams.

Harichand Mondal, a businessman from nearby Tarashi village, said, “My cousin is about Ashok. He was a simple man. But he was sometimes intoxicated. As far as I know, he has no sex.”

Kotalipara Police Station OC Muhammad Firoz Alam said that the investigation has already started on Ashok’s murder, “A paddy cutting sickle used in the murder has been recovered. Hopefully, very soon we will be able to unravel its mystery. “

Ashok’s body has been sent to Gopalganj Arai Bed General Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem, said the police officer.
