Dhaka: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-1 has arrested Mofazzal (35), the main accused in the case of thrashing of a garment worker in Sreepur, Gazipur.
He was arrested early on Sunday (April 21) from the homestead of Matiur Rahman of Tengria village under Haripur police station in Thakurgaon district.
RAB arrested the main accused within 48 hours of the murder.
On Sunday afternoon, RAB-1 Assistant Director (Ops Officer) Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Mahfuzur Rahman told the matter to Banglanews.
He said that on April 18 around 9 pm, Latif Mia (30) was invited to the house of Shirin (accused no. 2) in Maurachala area of Kewa West, under Sreepur police station of Gazipur. After eating and drinking there at night, Mofazzal and Shireen, along with 2-3 unidentified people, deliberately hit Mofazzal on the head with a bamboo stick and beat up his accomplices due to a dispute related to drug dealing. Latif was seriously injured. Later he was rescued and taken to Sreepur Upazila Health Complex where the doctor declared him dead. On receiving the news, Sreepur Thana Police went to the hospital and prepared a report on the condition of the body and sent the body to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.
Latif’s father was killed in this incident on April 19. Khalek filed a murder case (No-23/166) in Sreepur police station as plaintiff.
The RAB official said that following the case, RAB-1 and 13 conducted a joint operation on April 21 and arrested the main accused Mofazzal of Tengria village under Haripur police station of Thakurgaon district. Arrested from Matiur Rahman’s house.
He further said that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused confessed to be involved in the murder. Legal action is pending against the arrested accused.
