The Calcutta High Court is going to pronounce its verdict in the SSC recruitment corruption case on Monday. According to the list of cases published by the court, the division bench of Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Sabbar Rashidi will judge this case by 10:30 am. There was a lot of uproar in the state over the recruitment corruption case. CBI-ED is investigating recruitment corruption cases at various levels in primary and higher primary. Important among these are the corruption cases involving the appointment of teachers in classes IX-X, XI-XII of SSC in 2016 and recruitment of Group C and Group D staff in the respective years. The Calcutta High Court is scheduled to announce its verdict on Monday in that case.

Revisited recruitment corruption case

• June 2021: The then Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay started the hearing.
• November 22, 2021: First CBI probe ordered in Sandeep Prasad case in connection with Group D recruitment.
• December 6, 2021: A division bench of Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Rabindranath Samant stayed the CBI order and constituted an inquiry committee headed by retired Justice Ranjit Bagh.
• Then on February 15, 2022, Abhijit Gangopadhyay, who was sitting on the post of Justice, ordered a CBI investigation in the case of appointment of Group C as well. However, the Division Bench stayed that order too and directed the Bugh Committee to conduct an enquiry.
• April 7, 2022: The CBI was handed over the investigation into the Class IX-X teacher recruitment case.
• May 17, 2022: Order to dismiss Ankita Adhikari, daughter of former state minister Paresh Adhikari.
• May 18, 2022: A division bench of Justice Subrata Talukder orders a CBI probe into all recruitment corruption cases after accepting the Bagh Committee report.
• July 22, 2022: Former state education minister Partha Chatterjee arrested in recruitment corruption case.
• September 28, 2022: According to CBI’s preliminary report, various forms of corruption have been committed in recruitment.
• From March 2022 to 2023, the Single Bench orders termination of employment of several teachers and staff.
• November 9, 2023: Supreme Court directs Calcutta High Court to constitute special bench to hear all SSC cases together. Besides, the deadline for its settlement is fixed within six months.
