Wife and children beaten to death, husband arrested

In Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila, a wife and daughter were beaten to death with bamboo and a son was seriously injured due to a ‘family dispute’.

After this brutal incident, the police arrested the person named Shahidul Islam.

The deceased in this incident are Morjina Begum (34) and her daughter Afrin (7) of Neyatpur Chinirchara village of Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur.

Apart from this, Al Amin (14) is undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital with serious injuries.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station Tawhidul Islam said, ‘There is a family dispute behind this murder. Shahidul initially did not confess to the murder, but later confessed during interrogation.

Local residents and family members said that Shahidul started beating his wife Morjina with a bamboo after returning home on Saturday evening. Shahidul beat Afrin and Al Amin when they tried to save their mother.

They said Shahidul’s father Sohrab Hossain rushed to rescue Morjina, Al Amin and Afrin and took them to a local doctor. The doctor declared Morjina dead at 8:30 pm.

Later two injured children were taken to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex. If the condition worsened there, the doctor on duty referred them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Afrin died early this morning while undergoing treatment there.

The police recovered their bodies and sent them to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Morjina’s mother who was killed in the incident, Rosyna Begum, filed a murder case at Nawabganj Police Station as the plaintiff.
