PBKS vs GT IPL 2024: Sai Kishor leads Gujarat Titans to victory over disqualified Kings XI Punjab

Gujarat Titans returned to their winning ways with a comfortable wicket win over poor Kings XI Punjab in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League at Mulanpur on Sunday. Spinner Sai Kishore became the hero with the first four wickets to restrict Alo Punjab to 142, followed by Rahul Tewatia’s match-winner in just 17 balls. Scored 32* to take Gujarat to a crucial win.

A win improves Shubman Gill– takes Gujarat to four wins from four games to sit sixth in the points table, while Kings XI Punjab continue to struggle in ninth place with just two wins in IPL 2024.

After winning the dice roll, Shikhar Dhawan chose to bat first with the same XI as Punjab, trailing by nine runs against Mumbai Indians in the previous game. Gujarat replaced struggling pacer Spencer Johnson with Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Umarzai.

Stand-in captain Sam Curran and Prabhasimran Singh put on 52 runs off just 33 balls for the first wicket to get Punjab off to a flying start. Pravsimran showed some form, scoring 35 off just 21 balls, but failed to convert it into a big innings again.

Mohit Sharma dismissed Pravsimran in the sixth over to give Gujarat a breakthrough and then Punjab never recovered throughout the innings. Spinner Harpreet Brar scored 29 off just 12 balls in the closing stages to help Punjab post a defensive total of 142/10 in 20 overs. For Gujarat, Sai Kishore took four wickets for 33 runs and Noor Ahmed and Mohit Sharma took two wickets each.

Chasing a low score, Gujarat lost struggling veteran Bidhan Saha towards the end of the fourth innings. Skipper Shubman Gill started well with 35 runs but failed to finish the game. Despite their dominance, Gujarat’s batsmen struggled to finish the game early.

Kings XI Punjab kept the balance of the game for the most part, removing Liam Livingstone Gill and David Miller in quick succession. Harshal Patel dismissed Omarzai and Shahrukh Khan in the closing stages but Tewatia bowled out a 36 off just 18 balls, which proved enough to take Gujarat to a comfortable win with 5 balls to spare.
