In Madaripur, the in-laws have been accused of beating up an 8-month pregnant housewife for demanding dowry. Meanwhile, the accused husband has been arrested by the police.
The incident took place on Saturday (April 21) night in Swaicharbhanga village of Mustafapur union of Sadar upazila of Madaripur.
Deceased Ishita Akhtar is the wife of Enamul Dhali of that village. They have a 10-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son.
According to the relatives, Ishita Akhtar (36), daughter of Ayub Ali Matubbar of Ghatmazhi village, was married 12 years ago to Enamul Dhali (42) son of Majed Dhali of Swaicharbhanga village of Mostapur Union of Sadar Upazila of Madaripur. Enamul’s family is given valuables including cash at the time of marriage. After that, Ishita was subjected to physical torture for more dowry. Complaining to the family about this did not get any remedy. The police recovered Ishita’s body from her in-laws last Saturday night. Later sent to District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy.
Relatives alleged that Ishita was beaten to death by Enamul, her elder brother Tutul Dhali and in-laws for non-payment of dowry. Later, Enamul’s family tried to call it a suicide. Relatives and residents have demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits of this incident.
Ishita’s brother Sohail Matubbar said that my sister was killed in a planned manner. I could not imagine that my sister would be killed like this for dowry. Enamul and his family members are involved in this incident. I want a tough trial.
Ishita’s uncle Akash Matubbar says, “My niece was beaten to death.” Now they say, committed suicide. No woman who is 8 months pregnant can commit suicide. Before this, he used to torture Ishita for dowry. We want justice in this incident, so that no one dares to do such an incident in the future.
Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police. Alaul Hasan said, the accused Enamul has been detained for questioning in the case of recovering the body of the housewife. Legal action will be taken if the autopsy report is received. Besides, if a written complaint is received from the victim’s family, a case will be registered and necessary steps will be taken to catch the rest of the criminals.
