Recruitment Scam: On February 15, 2022, the then Justice Gangopadhyay ordered a CBI investigation into Group-C recruitment in Sabina Yasmin’s case. The Division Bench also stayed that order and directed the Bug Committee to enquire.

Today, Kolkata High Court announced the verdict in the teacher recruitment corruption case

Kolkata: In the last three years, this case has created a big stir in the politics of Bengal. Today is the big day of that teacher recruitment corruption case. SSC verdict announced today. The division bench of Justice Debanshu Basak and Mohammad Sabbar Rashidi will announce the judgment of 350 cases together. The hearing of the case has been going on in the special bench of the High Court on the orders of the Supreme Court for almost three and a half months. The trial ended on March 20. The court postponed the announcement of the verdict.

The hearing began in June 2021 in the courtroom of the then Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay. On November 22, the judge ordered the first CBI probe into the Group-D recruitment case in Sandeep Prasad’s case. On December 6, a division bench of Justice Harish Tandon and Justice Rabindranath Samant suspended the CBI-order and formed the inquiry committee of retired Justice Ranjit Bagh.

On February 15, 2022, the then Justice Gangopadhyay ordered a CBI investigation into the appointment of Group-C in Sabina Yasmin’s case. The Division Bench also stayed that order and directed the Bug Committee to enquire. On April 7, the investigation into the appointment of 9th-10th teachers is also to the CBI. On May 17 of the same year, Ankita Adhikari, daughter of former state minister Paresh Adhikari, was identified as illegal and ordered to be removed. The investigation into XI-XII recruitment was also handed over to the CBI.

On May 18, a division bench of Justice Subrata Talukdar accepted the report of the Bugh Committee and directed the CBI to investigate all recruitment corruption cases. Former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee was arrested by the ED in the recruitment case on July 22. On September 28, the CBI submitted its first report to the court and said that there was corruption in the recruitment in various ways. From that December to March of the following year, around 5,000 recruitments were canceled step by step by identifying illegal recruitments of staff and teachers.

On November 9 last year, the Supreme Court ordered the Calcutta High Court to form a special bench and hear all the SSC recruitment cases together. The apex court fixed the time of verdict within six months.
