Aditya Niyogi, chairman of Banshberia municipality, fell seriously ill in the heat recently while campaigning for the polls. This time, a vagabond senior fell victim to heat stoke while leaning on a railway station bench. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon between platforms 2 and 3 at Hooghly station. The name or identity of the dead man is not known. The old man was sitting leaning under the bench since morning. He suddenly fell ill and died. Akbar Ali, a tea shopkeeper at Hooghly station, said that he saw the 55-year-old man roaming on the platform of Hooghly station since Saturday. There was no word in his mouth, seeing him walking around like that, he gave him cake and water to eat. After eating, he fell asleep on that bench. The next morning, Akbar Ali gave tiffin to the old man, but that day the old man did not want to eat. Later in the afternoon, it was understood that he had fallen ill. After that he died. A railway passenger said that he also noticed the man at Hooghly station for two days. Seeing that he was not moving for some time, the traders on the platform informed the station master. Hooghly station master informs Bandel station. Additional Chief Medical Officer of Railways Abhijit Sengupta reached Hooghly station from Bandel. Bandel GRP workers reached the spot. The railway doctor declared him dead. At the same time, he arranged to send the dead body to Chunchura Imambara Hospital for autopsy. According to railway sources, the actual cause of death will be clear after the post-mortem. But the general idea is that the vagabond died due to heat.
