Heat alert for 3 more days across the country

The ongoing heatwave in the country may continue for the next 72 hours from Monday today.

Meteorologist of the Department of Meteorology today. This information was given in the warning signed by Bazlur Rashid.

The warning also notes that excess water vapor may increase discomfort.

Earlier on April 19, the Meteorological Department issued a heat alert. It said that the alert was issued for the period from April 19 to 22 morning.

Today, the alert time has been extended till the morning of April 25.

Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Haque told The Daily Star that the ongoing heat alert has been extended till Thursday morning in view of the weather conditions. We expect this heatwave to continue throughout April. Also there can be heat wave in May. The Meteorological Department will decide to extend the heat alert period considering the subsequent weather conditions.

According to the notification of the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature recorded in Chuadanga was 42.2 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.

In the next 24 hours from 9 am today, there may be rain or thundershower with gusty wind temporarily in a couple of places of Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chittagong divisions. At the same time there may be scattered hailstorm at some places. Apart from this, the weather may remain mainly dry with partly cloudy sky elsewhere in the country.

According to the notification regarding heat wave, very intense heat wave is flowing over Pabna and Chuadanga districts. Intense heatwave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Tangail, Jessore and Kushtia districts. A mild to moderate heat wave is prevailing over the remainder of Dhaka, Rajshahi and Khulna divisions including Srimangal and Chandpur districts and Rangpur, Mymensingh and Barisal divisions and may persist.

The ongoing heatwave may continue till April 25 morning, it said.
