A woman garment worker died in an accident in Dhaka on her way back to work after the Eid holiday. Apart from this, a cleaning worker of the city corporation died after being hit by an autorickshaw in the new market area of Gulshan.
Ayesha Akhtar (20) was killed in two accidents in Zero Point area of Gulistan early on Sunday (April 21). Ayesha’s husband Khairul Islam (25) was injured in the accident. Both of them work in a garment factory in Tongi.
Assistant Sub-Inspector of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost. Masud Mia said that when two of them were taken to the hospital at 5 am, the doctor said that Ayesha had died.
A relative of Ayesha named Zahirul Islam told reporters at the hospital that Ayesha and Khairul live in Cheragali area of Tongir. They went to their village home in Patuakhali during the Eid holidays. To go to work, they boarded the Gazipur-bound Ajmeri Glory Paribahan bus from Sadarghat. Two others were injured when the bus was hit by another vehicle at Zero Point area.
Shahbag Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Shah Alam said that some passengers of the bus were injured when a covered van carrying cement hit it. Ayesha died among them. The covered van is in police custody, he said.
On the other hand, Abdur Razzak (46), a cleaner of Dhaka North City Corporation, died after being hit by an auto-rickshaw at New Bazar around 6 am. He was seriously injured when he was hit by an auto-rickshaw while crossing the road with a dirt van and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Razzaq’s son Al Amin said his father died around 10 am after being taken to the hospital.
