The police recovered the strangled body of a woman named Azida Begum (40) from the locked room of a rented house in Gazipur’s Sreepur. Her husband is absconding since the incident.
On Sunday (April 21) morning, the body was recovered from Babul Khan’s house in Nagar Howla village of Gazipur union of the upazila. Azida Begum is the daughter of Rumali Hossain of Hailati village in Kamalakanda upazila of Netrokona. Lived in that house with her husband and worked as a cook at Pabna Hotel in Jaina Bazar.
Pabna Hotel owner Dulal Kumar Ghosh said, ‘Azida Begum has been working in my hotel for six months. He used to cook and wash. Never saw her husband.’
Akbar Ali Khan, OC of Sreepur police station said, quoting neighbors, ‘9 months ago, Azida Begum rented the house of Babul Khan of Nagar Howla village with her husband. Husband used to come and go regularly. However, the neighbors could not tell the identity of the husband. The owner of the house said that her husband used to work at Mauna Chaurasta. As the house was locked since Friday, no one inquired. When the stench spread, the people of the house broke the lock and entered the house and found the dead body on the floor. A blood-stained basket was lying next to the body.
The OC also said, ‘It is believed that sometime on Friday, her husband killed the housewife by slitting her throat with that stick and locked herself outside the house. Police are working to identify him. The body has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
