The court has sentenced two youths to death in the case of the murder of CNG autorickshaw driver Russell (18) in Chouddagram, Comilla. At the same time, each of them has been fined 50 thousand rupees.

Judge Jahangir Hossain of the Additional District and Sessions Judge 4th Court of Comilla gave the verdict on Sunday (April 21).

State lawyer Mujibur Rahman confirmed the matter to Jago News.

Those sentenced to death are Gias Uddin Yaz (23), son of deceased Soleman Mia of Shubopur village of the upazila and Oli Ullah (30), son of Anna Mia of Gandachi village of neighboring Nangalkot upazila.

According to court sources, the autorickshaw driver Russell complained to his girlfriend that Gias Uddin is a drug addict. Ghiyas Uddin planned to kill Russell to take revenge for this incident. Later on June 18, 2019, Gias Uddin and Oli hired Russell’s autorickshaw. Later, after roaming in different places throughout the day, at one point talking about Yaba consumption, accused Ali Ullah took him inside the forest in Comilla Airport area, untied his pants belt, strangled him to death and buried the body in wet soil.

Later, Russel’s father Zainal Abedin of Shubopur village of Chauddagram upazila was found in Chauddagram police station, the son of Ekramul Haque Pagla of the same village. Shaheen (23), Ghiyasuddin (21), son of deceased Soleman Mia and Tungku Mia (19) and Ekramul Haque Pagla (45) filed a case against unknown 3/4 persons. The investigation officer of the case SI said. Harunur Rashid using information technology accused Tungku Mia, Giasuddin, Md. When Shaheen and Ekramul were arrested, they gave a confessional statement.

On June 12, 2019, after filing charges against the accused Ghiyasuddin, Tunku, Ekramul Haque Pagla and Ali Ullah, the state side took the testimony of 13 witnesses and after hearing the arguments of both sides, the charges were proved beyond doubt, and on Sunday afternoon, the accused Ghiyasuddin and Ali Ullah were sentenced to death and fined 50,000 taka. Accused Tunku was acquitted as the charges against him were not proved and accused Ekramul Haque Pagla died during the pendency of the case.
