Auto-rickshaw driver killed for extra-marital affair: Two sentenced to death

The court has ordered the death penalty for 2 people in the murder of CNG auto rickshaw driver Russell in Comilla due to extramarital affair. The murder took place on July 8, 2017 in Chauddagram Upazila of Comilla.

On Sunday (April 21), Comilla’s Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-4 Judge Md. Jahangir Hossain gave this verdict. Advocate Mujibur Rahman Bahar, counsel for the state in the case, confirmed this to the Bangla Tribune.

The accused who were sentenced to death are Gias Uddin (23) son of Soleman Haque Pagla of Shubopur area of ​​Shubopur Union of Chauddagram Upazila, Oli Ullah (30) son of Ala Mia of Gandachi village of Nangalkot. Ghiyas Uddin was present at the time of the verdict but the other was absconding.

Advocate Mujibur Rahman Bahar, counsel for the state, said that on June 18, 2017, the unknown accused kidnapped Zainal Abedin’s son Russell from Shubopur area of ​​Chauddagram Upazila. Later they demanded a ransom of one lakh rupees. Zainal Abedin filed a kidnapping case after not getting his son despite paying Tk 50,000. Later, on July 8 of that year, when a body was found at the old airport in Comilla city, Zainal Abedin identified it as his son’s body. Zainal Abedin filed a case in this incident. The police investigated and filed an investigation report accusing Ekramul Haque Pagla, Ghiyas Uddin, Shaheen, Nangalkot’s Oli Ullah and Asma Akhter Sathi of Shubopur area. When Ekramul Haque Pagla died, he was acquitted from the case. Apart from this, the husband’s case is ongoing in the women and children’s court. The court acquitted Shaheen from the case. The remaining two were sentenced to death.

The accused admitted in the court that Asma Akhter was the sister of the deceased Russell in relation to his partner. Russell had an extramarital affair with her. Meanwhile, Sathi also had an extramarital affair with Gias Uddin. Ghiyas Uddin Ekramul Haque, along with Oli Ullah, planned to kill Rasul and dumped the dead body at the old airport of Comilla city.

Advocate Mujibur Rahman Bahar, counsel for the state party, said, “The state party is satisfied with this verdict. We believe that the high court will uphold this verdict.
