At least 7 people have been killed in a racing car crash in Sri Lanka. The country’s army organized this car race. This is the first such event after the covid and financial crisis.
This car-race is organized in the Fox Hill region, 180 km away from the capital Colombo. The entire event was organized by the army. A large number of people had gathered on both sides of the track. In such a situation, suddenly a racing car lost control and went off the track and into the spectators. Seven people died on the spot. Many people were injured.
Police spokesperson Nihal Thaldua said, “In all, 27 people were taken to the hospital. The hospital declared seven people dead.” Among the dead were four officials. There was also an eight-year-old child. The police said that investigation has been started on the whole incident. It is also being investigated whether there was any negligence on the part of the officials. The rest of the program was also canceled after the incident.
The Sri Lankan Army has organized such events before. But there was no race in the last five years. First came the covid and then the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. After many days, the army organized such a program this year. About 45 thousand spectators went to watch the race. Shortly before the accident, the army chief had announced that the general public could watch the race for free. The door has been opened for them. After the announcement, thousands of people gathered on both sides of the track. Then this accident happened.
