After not getting dowry money in Naogaon’s Badalgachi, husband Emran strangled his wife Arshi late at night at her father-in-law’s house.
According to police and family sources at the police station, just 8 months ago, Shah Alam of Karttikahar village of the upazila married his daughter Anjum Noore Arshi (17) to Emran Hossain, son of Miraj Hossain of the same upazila. After marriage, Emran Hossain asked his wife to bring 2 lakh rupees as dowry from her father’s house. When wife Arshi informs her parents about this, they want to decorate her son-in-law’s house with a motorcycle and furniture. But not immediately, after a few days, he told his son-in-law. Son-in-law Imran disobeyed his mother-in-law and pressured his wife for Rs 2 lakh in cash. With this, the husband Emran beat and tortured his wife.
Recently, on the day of Eid, son-in-law Emran came to Shu Shur’s house with his wife. Since then, Emran physically tortured his wife Arshi on the night of April 19, when he was at his father-in-law’s house with his wife. When Arshi’s parents and other family members come to know about it, they advise the son-in-law to keep calm. The next day, Saturday 20th April, after all the family including son-in-law Emran had dinner and went to sleep, at 12 o’clock in the night, Pasand Swami Emran beat his wife for dowry money. At one point, Emran started behaving strangely by strangling his wife and strangling her by twisting her veil. At the same time, Arshi’s parents went to the daughter-in-law’s room and found Arshi dead on the bed with a veil wrapped around Arshi’s neck. At that time, Arshi’s parents screamed and the people of the neighboring house ran away, while the father-in-law fled to his own house with his used motorcycle. In the morning, the stubborn son-in-law Emran with his parents came back to the in-laws’ house in a van. At that time, the villagers arrested Pasand’s son-in-law and reported to the police station. After receiving the news, SI Manik Hossain of the police station along with the force arrived at the spot and recovered Arshi’s body.
SI Manik, who made the body’s surathal, said that there is a scar on the neck of the body.
Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station, said that the body has been recovered and sent to the morgue for post-mortem examination. In this incident, Arshi’s father has filed a murder case at Shah Alam police station. The case is under process.
