This time: The Calcutta High Court is going to give its verdict in the SSC recruitment corruption case today, Monday, within the Lok Sabha polls. In the current Lok Sabha polls, not only West Bengal, but even in different parts of the country, starting from Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself, the entire Ocher camp and other opponents have attacked this recruitment corruption as a tool. This is one of the most important issues in the Bengal elections. In this situation, what the high court decides today, just as the education community will be watching, so will the politicians.
According to the list of cases published by the High Court, the division bench of Justice Debanshu Basak and Justice Sabbar Rashidi will announce the judgment of the case at 10:30 am today.

The CBI and the ED are two central agencies investigating a number of high court-ordered cases of alleged corruption in recruitment at various levels in state education—primary to higher secondary. One of the most important of them is the case of corruption in the appointment of teachers in classes 9-10, 11-12 of SSC in 2016 and the recruitment of staff of classes 3 and 4 in the school in the same year.

The High Court will give its verdict in that case. On the orders of the Supreme Court, the Calcutta High Court constituted a special bench headed by Justice Basak to hear these cases together. The case was heard for at least 25 days from December 5 last year. In all, about 30 lakh applicants appeared in these four streams. During the hearing, the court observed that even though there were about 22,000 recruitments, if there was fraud, it happened only with those 30,000,000 job seekers.

In addition to the deprived job seekers who have been accused of getting jobs illegally, the future of millions of job seekers also hangs on the court’s verdict. Additional security arrangements are being made in advance so that there is no disturbance in the High Court premises due to this verdict.

Lawyers are also looking at which direction the High Court verdict may go. Three types of explanations are emerging from their side. First, if the court dismisses all the pleas in the case, the allegation of illegal employment will no longer have merit. As a result, the status quo will remain for both those who have been recruited and those who have been deprived.

Then the acquittal of the accused in recruitment corruption cases for the past few years is just a matter of time. Secondly, if the Division Bench quashed the entire recruitment panel at various levels of SSC and asked the Commission to re-examine the OMR sheets found by the CBI and given to the SSC in the investigation of the case, excluding those who were recruited on the basis of valid OMRs. There is a high probability that the appointment will be cancelled.

According to the lawyers, 808 teachers in ninth-tenth, 771 teachers in eleventh-twelfth and 783 in Group-C and 1741 in Group-D posts are in doubt as the controversial job recipients. Thirdly, if this appointment is cancelled, to see whether the court also gives direction on how the remaining appointments will be made from among the valid job seekers.
