Sylhet: A rickshaw driver passed away after fainting on the road in Sylhet city yesterday. Deceased Abu Hamid Mia (34) of Shibpur village of Lakhai upazila of Habiganj. Son of Karam Ali. Yardous Hasan, OC of Dakshin Surma Police Station, said that an unidentified rickshaw driver fainted in front of the police box near Kazirbazar Bridge in Dakshin Surma. Jessore: People of all ages including children and old people are suffering from heat related diseases including diarrhoea. The pitch (bitumen) of the road is melting in different parts of Jessore due to extreme heat wave. Sources related to the Department of Roads and Public Ways said that generally the pitch used on the road is of 60 to 70 grade. Its melting point is 48 to 52 degrees Celsius. That is, when the temperature rises to 48 degrees Celsius, the pitch melts. But long before that, the pitch is melting. Mahbub Haider Khan, sub-divisional engineer of the road department said, “The bitumen of the road is melting mainly because of the temperature.” According to Jessore Roads and Public Roads Department, 80 to 100 grade bitumen is used on roads that can withstand temperatures below 32 degrees Celsius. Later 60 to 70 grade bitumen is being used on more temperature tolerant roads. Some roads were built several years ago. Basically 80 to 100 grade bitumen is used there. That’s why they can melt.

Sohrab Hossain, a resident of Bagmara area of ​​the city, said that the water in the water reserve tank on the roof of the house is very hot. Water cannot be touched from 12 noon to afternoon.

Meanwhile, the residents of the city are facing water shortage amid the intense heat wave. They said that the tubewell which used to get water all the time, now that tubewell is useless. Meherpur: A housewife named Shilpi Khatun (45) died of heat stroke yesterday at 9 am in Gangni, Meherpur. She is the wife of Abu Taher of Ruerkandi village of Sholtaka union of the upazila and the daughter of Billal Hossain Malitha of nearby Amoil village. Meanwhile, to avoid heatstroke in summer, the Meherpur Health Department is conducting a precautionary campaign on hand mics in the hospital premises.

Jhalkathi: West Aura village of Sadar Union of Kathalia Upazila of Jhalkathi. One named Afzal Talukder (45) died of heatstroke. He was taken to the village doctor at 11 pm last Saturday, where he died. Local rural doctor Dilip Chandra Howladar said that he died of stroke due to extreme heat.

Gazipur: A person named Russell Sarkar (42) died of heatstroke in Gazipur district on Sunday. He is from Bhavanipur area of ​​Gazipur Sadar Upazila. Ibrahim is the son of Mia. Mahmuda Rani, a doctor in the emergency department, said that Russell Sarkar was brought to the hospital in a dead state. He is believed to have died of heatstroke. However, the actual cause of death can be said if the autopsy report is received. Earlier on Saturday, a youth named Sohail Rana (36) died of heatstroke in Konabari area of ​​Gazipur metropolis.

Khulna Bureau: People are suffering from cold-fever, stomach ache and respiratory diseases in Khulna due to severe heat wave. Meanwhile, almost three times the number of patients are admitted in Khulna Medical College Hospital due to heat illness. 1 thousand 286 patients were admitted yesterday against 500 beds. The previous day on Thursday, the maximum number of patients admitted was 1,305. The authorities are struggling to reduce the number of hospital beds due to the pressure of patients. As a result, many are forced to stay outside the ward on the balcony, on the floor of the road in front of the stairwell.

Similarly, the authorities are not able to accommodate sick patients in Khulna Children’s Hospital. Not one of the hospital’s 270 beds is vacant. On top of that, parents are bringing 7 to 80 sick children to the hospital for admission every day. Many have to be returned due to lack of space. Apart from this, 500 to 600 children are receiving treatment in the outpatient department every day. Most of them are suffering from various heat related diseases including fever, diarrhoea, pneumonia.

Madhavadi (Narsingdi): One person died of heatstroke yesterday at 12 noon on Sunday in Madhavadi, Narsingdi. In case of stroke, relatives took him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. The doctor on duty at the hospital declared him dead and said he died of heatstroke. The deceased is Safkat Jamil Iban (30), son of deceased Zakaria of Bhagirathpur village of the upazila.

Rangpur Bureau: In Rangpur, people are suffering from intense heat. People are not going out on the streets without necessity. As a result, the roads are empty. Rickshaw drivers and van drivers have become jobless. The number of patients is increasing in Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Feni: Due to intense heat and heatstroke in Feni, the prevalence of various diseases including diarrhea and pneumonia has increased. Children are more affected. Most of the pediatric patients are rushing to the hospital with various symptoms including fever, cold, diarrhea and pneumonia. Due to the sudden increase in patients, there is a shortage of beds in the hospital. According to Feni General Hospital, the number of patients admitted in the hospital’s children’s ward is 104 against 26 beds. 40 patients have been admitted to this ward in the last 24 hours. It is known from the outside of the hospital that about 1,500 patients are receiving treatment in the outpatient department every day. Out of this, an average of about 400 child patients are receiving medical treatment outdoors every day.

Jamalpur: The number of patients suffering from pneumonia, fever, cold and diarrhea has increased due to intense heat in Jamalpur. It is difficult for doctors and nurses to provide medical care to patients. Along with that, the patient’s relatives are in extreme suffering as there is no electricity for hours. Yesterday afternoon, the assistant director of the district’s 250-bed Jamalpur General Hospital Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman said, 1 thousand 540 patients are currently admitted due to excessive heat.
