The body of a schoolboy named Leon (14) was recovered from the river seven hours after he went missing while taking a bath in Atpara, Netrakona. His body was recovered from the Magra river behind Mangalshree village of Atpara Madan border on Saturday (April 20) evening.

Leon is the son of Dipu Mia of Mangalshree village of Atpara upazila and Madan is an eighth grade student of T Amin Government High School in Jahangirpur.

According to local and Madan Fire Service sources, Leon took a bath on Saturday afternoon in the Magra River, which flows between Madan and Atpara upazilas. Then he disappeared in the current of the river. Later, his family members reported to the Madan Fire Service Station after not finding him. The people of Madan Fire Service came and searched and informed the diving team of Mymensingh Fire Service. They arrived in the afternoon and started the rescue operation. Later in the evening, Leon’s body was recovered from the Magra river.

Abul Kalam, Sub Officer of Madan Fire Service Station, said, “We went on an operation to rescue the student in the afternoon after receiving the information. After not finding it initially, I informed the Mymensingh diving team. His body was recovered later in the evening when the diving team arrived in the afternoon and started the rescue operation.

Atpara police station OC Mohammad Tawhidur Rahman said that the body of a school student named Lyon was recovered from the Magra river after 7 hours of disappearance. The body was handed over without an autopsy following the family’s request.
