Babul Akhtar filed a revision petition in the High Court when the trial court rejected the case. After the hearing, the High Court issued its ruling on October 25 last year. On Tuesday (November 21) it was rejected by Justice SM Quddus Zaman and Justice Md. Aminul Islam’s bench.
Additional Attorney General Mehdi Hasan Chowdhury and Deputy Attorney General Sujit Chatterjee Bappi were representing the state in the court. And lawyer Shishir Mohammad Monir stood for Babul Akhtar.
Earlier, Babul Akhtar filed a case against PBI chief Banaj Kumar and six police officers from jail through a lawyer. Which was rejected by Chittagong court on September 25 last year. Babul Akhter filed a revision petition in the High Court against that order.
On June 5, 2016, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, wife of former SP Babul Akhtar, was murdered in GEC Mor area of Chittagong city. Babul Akhter himself was the plaintiff in the case. After the investigation, he was made an accused in that case. Babul Akhtar alleged that he was tortured after being kept in custody at the PBI office. However, PBI officials have denied this allegation.
The six persons against whom the case has been filed are PBI chief Banaj Kumar Majumder, PBI Chittagong Metropolitan Police Superintendent Naima Sultana, District Superintendent of Police Nazmul Hasan, PBI inspector Enayet Kabir, former inspector AK Mohiuddin Salim and Santosh Chakma.
