Two people named Mirjan Khalasi (43) and Achmat Ali Bepari (45) died in Shibchar of Madaripur district in a gang beating by locals on suspicion of dacoity. They were reportedly beaten up while escaping after the robbery. Two others are in police custody. The incident took place in Chalenama area of Banshkandi Union of the upazila around 2.30 am on Monday. The deceased Mirjan Khalasi is the son of deceased Abu Ali Khalasi of Sambhuk area of Shibchar upazila. The name of the person who died while undergoing treatment is Achmat Ali Bepari (45). He is the son of Rattan Bepari of Lakshmipur area of Hirachar union of Madaripur Sadar upazila. Meanwhile, Sagar Hawladar (28) and Mustafa Kamal (65) were arrested and handed over to the police for suspicious movement in the morning. It is reported that a group of 5 robbers attacked the house of former Secretary Abdul Hakim’s brother Abdul Hakim in Bajitpur area of Banshkandi Union of Shibchar Upazila on Monday around midnight. At that time, when the people of the house started screaming, the bandit ran away from the house.
Later, the van driver of the nearby area went to the house of Delwar Hauladar and called a tenant named Tushar. When he opened the door without understanding, he took the person named Tushar hostage with a sharp weapon.
Later, the robbers called the people of the neighboring house. As soon as the house owner of the next house came out, he cut and injured him with a sharp weapon and looted goods worth lakhs of rupees. When they fled after the robbery, the locals chased Mirjan and Achmat Ali Bepari and beat them up. On receiving the information, a police team including SI Golzar Hossain of Shibchar police station visited the spot and rescued 2 seriously injured people and declared Mirjan Khalasi, the doctor on duty at Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, as dead. Achmat Ali Bepari died while undergoing treatment on Tuesday afternoon. Shibchar Upazila Health Complex medical officer Dr. Mainul Islam said, ‘The police brought two people to the hospital around 5:30 am. One of them died earlier.’ Sub-Inspector (SI) of Sibchar Police Station Gulzar Alam said, ‘On receiving the news, we visited the spot and rescued two people in critical condition and brought them to the hospital. One of them died. Another one died later.’ Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shivchar Police Station Subrata Goldar said, ‘Investigation is going on in this incident. A police team is on the spot. Necessary measures will be taken after the investigation.
