Burn Institute Resident Doctor Tariqul Islam confirmed this on Tuesday. He said that 75 percent of Beauty Begum’s body was burnt. Earlier, he was admitted to the hospital on Monday afternoon.
On Monday morning, a clash between two parties over a land dispute took place in Habibnagar area of Rupganj upazila. At that time, the people of the opposing party attacked the house of the followers of one party.
School teacher Shimu Akhter, the daughter of the slain housewife, said, ‘On Monday morning, followers of local Jaher Ali clashed with Habibur Rahman Harez, the former vice chairman of Upazila Parishad, over a land dispute. Their family has a good relationship with Jaher Ali’s family. In the afternoon, Haraj’s followers attacked their house on that basis. They poured petrol on the door of the house and set it on fire. At that time my mother was burnt in the fire. When I came to put out the fire on his body, my hand was also burnt. After the attackers left, the people around took us first to a private hospital and then to Dhaka.’
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police Abir Hossain said that preparations are underway to file a murder case in this incident.
