A youth named Jasim Mia (22) was allegedly beaten to death with a cricket bat while playing cricket in Brahmanbaria’s Bancharampur.
The incident took place on Tuesday (November 21) evening at the Ashrafabad Madrasa grounds.
The house of the deceased is in Ashrafbad village of the upazila. His father’s name is Shiron Mia. The deceased Jasim has a two-year-old son. After a few days he was supposed to go abroad.
According to local sources, Jasim, son of Shiron Mia of Ashrafbad village, and Emon Mia, son of Roshan Mia, of the same village, were playing cricket in the Ashrafbad Madrasa field of Chalimabad Union of Bancharampur Upazila. At that time, there was an argument between the two people. At one stage, Eamon Mia beat Jasim with a cricket bat in his hand. When Jasim fell down on the ground, the locals took him to the Upazila Health Complex with serious injuries, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Muhammad Ali, elder brother of deceased Jasim, said, “Emon suddenly started beating my brother with a cricket bat while playing cricket. When he was seriously injured, after being brought to the hospital, the doctor said that my brother had died. I want a tough trial for this.’
Ripon Mia, the nephew of the deceased Jasim, said, “When we were playing cricket, my uncle was beaten with a bat for no reason. Uncle died when we took him to the hospital.’
Rahmat Ullah Pavel, the doctor on duty at Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex, said that he died before being brought to the hospital.
In this regard, Bancharampur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noore Alam said, ‘There was an argument between the two over the cricket game. At one stage Eamon beats Jasim with a cricket bat. Jasim died after being brought to the hospital. We are on a mission to catch Eamon.’
