In order to ensure fair rights of men as well as women workers in infrastructural development projects, wage allowance, safety and working environment of women workers, the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) Chittagong region has organized a meeting on the formation of alliance to prevent gender based violence. The meeting was held on Tuesday (November 21) at the training room of LGED in Sholshahar of the city under the ongoing development project Supporting Rural Bees funded by the World Bank.

During this time, the speakers pointed out the obstacles related to increasing the participation of women in rural infrastructural development under the supervision of LGED, creating a work environment, and creating an environment that facilitates the work of women workers. They promised to support the creation of a citizen network to ensure citizen scrutiny and social participation in preventing gender-based violence.

It is also requested to publicize emergency hotline numbers 333 and 999 for prevention of violence against women with assurance of necessary legal advice, assistance or medical assistance. People from all walks of life are expected to come forward so that women can prove their skills in a good working environment. Also, everyone applauded the initiative of LGED in this regard.

Mahbubur Rahman, Supervising Engineer of Chittagong Region, Directorate of Local Government Engineering, presided over this meeting regarding the formation of alliance. BME Engineer Kalha Khai, LGED Executive Engineer Biswajit Dutta, Senior Assistant Engineer Suman Talukdar also spoke in this.

Besides, Deputy Director of District Women Affairs Directorate Madhavi Barua, Assistant Director of Social Services Directorate Kamrul Pasha Bhuiya, ISDE Bangladesh Executive Director and CSDF Chairperson SM Najer Hossain, Senior Journalist M Nasirul Haque, Chittagong participated in the open discussion moderated by CSDF Project Coordinator Shampa K Nahar. Former City Corporation Women Councilor Advocate Rehena Begum Ranu, Women Leader and Ilma CEO Jasmine Sultana Paru, CRCD Executive Director and CAB Chittagong Divisional General Secretary Kazi Iqbal Bahar Chhaberi, Dainik Purbadesh MA Hossain, CVoice 24.com’s Sharmin Rima, Dainik Purvakone’s Maryam Jahan Munni, Nila Chakma of Daily Suprabhat Bangladesh, Shafiqul Islam of Daily Purbadesh, Saira Begum, Executive Director of Sabujer Jatra, Sufia Kamal Fellows of CSDA, Jannatul Ferdous and Saima Haque, Zahurul Islam of Ishika Foundation and others.
