The court granted two-day remand to the two accused in the murder case of Saudi expatriate’s wife and two daughters in Hossainpur of Kishoreganj. On Tuesday (November 21) noon, the police produced them in court and applied for a five-day remand. Later, Senior Judicial Magistrate Jinnat Ara granted a two-day remand after the hearing.

The accused are Jahangir Alam (45) son of deceased Abdus Sobahan of Basur Char village of Sahedal Union of Hossainpur upazila and Zahirul Islam Chotan (33) son of deceased Abdur Razzak of the same village.

Hossainpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman Titu confirmed the matter. He said, the remand hearing of the discussed triple murder case has been done. We seek a five-day remand to determine the consistency and clarity of the preliminary information in the interrogation of the accused and the information obtained in the investigation so far. The learned court granted two days after the hearing.

Earlier, Kishoreganj Superintendent of Police Russell Sheikh said, we were bringing seven people for questioning in this incident, five of them have been handed over to their families. They did not find anything suspicious. Considering two of them suspicious, the police arrested Jahangir Alam and Zahirul Islam Choton from Basur Char village of Sahedal Union of Hossainpur Upazila on the evening of November 15.

Last Tuesday (November 14), the police recovered the bodies of Tashlima Akhtar (35), the wife of Saudi expatriate Manjil Mia, her elder daughter Mohana (11) and her younger daughter Banya (7) from the two beds of their house in Basurchar village of Sahedal Union of Hossainpur upazila.

Police and locals said Manzil Mia went to Saudi Arabia in 2017. His wife Tashlima lived in the house with their two daughters Mohana and Banya. Among the two girls, Mohana was a Class V student and Banya was a Class I student of Basurchar Government Primary School.

Kabirul Islam Nayan, the brother of the deceased Tashlima Akhter, said, “I want justice for the murder of my sister and two nieces through a fair investigation.”
