The police recovered the body of a person named Ershad (36) with one arm and one leg severed in Bhogra Uttarpara area of Gazipur metropolis. Police recovered his body in the early hours of Tuesday (November 21).
Ershad is the son of Syed Ali of Saraipara area of Pahartali police station in Chittagong.
Ershad’s wife Sheila Begum said that her husband used to work as a butcher for rent in the Bashir road area of Naljani under the local Basan police station. Her husband left the house around 5 pm on Monday. Even though it was late at night, he fell asleep without returning home. At around 2am, she got news that her husband had been hacked to death. The killers left the body in a local abandoned land.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Basan Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmul Haque said, ‘The lower part of the deceased’s right arm was severed from the elbow, the lower part of the right leg was also almost severed from the knee. Apart from this, there are deep wounds under both armpits. A tent and two pairs of sandals were recovered from the spot.’
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Basan Police Station Abu Siddique said that preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased Ershad was intoxicated and was involved in various criminal activities. Enmity can lead to murder. Legal action in this regard is under process. After recovery, the body has been sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
