Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque has collected and submitted the nomination form of Awami League for Shariatpur-1 constituency in the 12th parliamentary elections. He himself confirmed this information on Tuesday afternoon.

Shahidul Haque said that his nephew Imran Bepari collected the nomination form from the central office of Awami League on Saturday. Submitted on Monday.

Shahidul Haque’s ancestral home in Naria Upazila of Shariatpur-2 Constituency. Naria Upazila Chairman and District Awami League Joint General Secretary AKM Ismail Haque is his younger brother.

But the former IGP has a house in Shariatpur-1 constituency and studied and grew up there since childhood. That is why he has collected the nomination form from Shariatpur-1 constituency.

Shahidul Haque also said that if he gets the Awami League nomination for Shariatpur-1 constituency, there will be no party conflict. He claims that the people there want him.

Former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque was born in a noble Muslim family in Narkalikata village under Naria police station in Shariatpur district. He joined the Bangladesh Police Force in 1986 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police through the 1984 Bangladesh Civil Service Examination.

Shahidul Haque served as Superintendent of Police in Chandpur, Moulvibazar, Chittagong and Sirajganj districts. Served as DIG in Police Headquarters, Rajshahi Range and Chittagong Range. Apart from serving as Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he held various important positions in the police.

Shahidul Haque received his MSS degree in Social Welfare from Dhaka University in 1984. Later he obtained LLB from Dhaka University and MBA from a private university.
