Bagerhat: The court sentenced a young man named Raju Fakir (22) to life imprisonment in the case of the murder of businessman Rubel Fakir in Chitalmari, Bagerhat. At the same time, the accused has been sentenced to another three months rigorous imprisonment without paying a fine of Tk 10,000.
Bagerhat District and Sessions Judge Moha on Tuesday (November 21) at 5 pm. Rabiul Islam announced the verdict. Besides, the court acquitted the other 10 accused in this case. The accused were present when the verdict was announced.
Convicted Raju Fakir is the son of Rezaul Fakir of Khiligati village of Chitalmari upazila. Murder victim Rubel Fakir is the son of deceased Mohsin Fakir of the same village.
According to the source of the case, on the night of May 2, 2019, Raju Fakir had an argument with the businessman Rubel Fakir in Khiligati Bazar area of Chitalmari Upazila. At one point, Raju hit Rubel on the head with Fakir’s cricket stamp. When Rubel Fakir was seriously injured, he was first admitted to Bagerhat District Hospital and later to Khulna Medical College Hospital. The next day, on May 3, Rubel died on his way from Khulna to Dhaka for better treatment.
In this incident, Shirina Begum, the mother of the victim, filed a case at Chitalmari Police Station mentioning the names of 10-12 people including Rezaul Fakir. On August 27 of the same year, District Intelligence Police OC Md. Rezaul Karim filed a charge sheet against 12 accused. The court acquitted one accused while framing the charge.
The lawyer for the plaintiff in this case is Public Counsel Mohammad Ali. The lawyer for the accused was Faisal Arefin.
