Police have arrested Nazmul Hossain (25), the killer of the driver’s throat while robbing a battery-powered auto-rickshaw in Comilla.
Nazmul Hossain is the son of Nazir Mia of Ilashpur area of Barura upazila of district. The deceased autorickshaw driver Mehedi Hasan (12) is the son of Abul Kashem of Banshtali area of Khoshbas North Union of Barura upazila.
On Tuesday (November 21), Barura Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Hossain confirmed the matter.
OC Feroz Hossain said, on Sunday (November 19), the killer Nazmul came to the autorickshaw driver Mehdi to rent an autorickshaw. He fixed the fare to go to the Kalibazar area of the neighboring Adarsh Sadar Upazila and left. Later he went to Kali Bazaar and asked the driver to bring saplings from the nearby Lalmai Hill cart.
He agreed to go as the killer Nazmul and the autorickshaw driver Mehdi knew each other. Later Nazmul took out the knife hidden in his waist from the mountain bush and first hit Mehdi twice in the stomach. He fell to the ground and cut his throat. After the death was confirmed, Nazmul took his auto-rickshaw to his in-laws’ home in Gouripur of Daudkandi upazila.
Meanwhile, as he did not return home, the relatives of the deceased Mehdi started looking for him. The father of the deceased Mehdi came to know from the locals that Nazmul hired an auto-rickshaw to go to Kali Bazar. Later, as Nazmul was not found, Mehdi’s father filed a written complaint at Barura police station. The police started investigation after receiving the complaint.
Police traced Nazmul’s location on Monday (October 20). The police came to know that the killer Nazmul was staying at his father-in-law’s house in Gauripur area of Daudkandi. Later the police arrested him and took him to the police station.
The OC also said that Nazmul gave misleading information during the interrogation after the arrest. After extensive interrogation, he admitted the truth of the incident and revealed the location of the body. Later on Monday (November 20) around 2 am, Mehdi’s body was recovered from an auto-rickshaw and jungle at the Hatigara cemetery of Lalmai Hill.
OC Feroz Hossain said that the process of arresting the killer Nazmul and handing him over to the court is underway after filing a case of murder in this incident.
