Old man dies after being hit by a train in Nilphamari

A mentally unstable old man died after being hit by a train in Nilphamari. The accident took place near Gachbari railway crossing in the district town around 5:30 am on Tuesday.

Deceased Akbar Ali alias Pagla Akbar (62) is the son of deceased Abbas Ali of Garkaipara Mohalla of Nilphamari town. Syedpur Railway Police Inspector Sakyul Azam said that he was mentally unstable for a long time.

Eyewitnesses said that Akbar Ali was standing near Gachbari railway crossing area on Tuesday morning. At around 5:30 in the morning, the Rajshahi-bound inter-city train left Nilphamari railway station and crossed the Gachbari railway crossing. He jumped under the train and died on the spot.

The family members said that Akbar Ali left the house early in the morning while the family members were sleeping. In the morning, not finding him at home, the family members started looking around. Later it was reported that he died after being cut by a train.

Inspector Sakyul Azam of Syedpur Railway Police Station of Nilphamari said that the body of the person was recovered soon after the incident. Family members reached the spot and identified the body. As there was no complaint, the body was handed over to the family after the legal process. He also said that a wrongful death case has been filed in this incident.
