The court sentenced Belal Hossain (37) and his wife Jasmine Khatun (27) to life imprisonment in the case of rape and murder of an unidentified woman in Natore. At the same time each has been fined 1 lakh rupees.
Judge District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Women and Child Torture Tribunal gave this order on Tuesday (November 21) afternoon.
Convicted accused Belal Hossain (37) is the son of Jabbar Ali of Ulupur area of Sadar Upazila and Belal Hossain’s wife Jasmine (27) is the daughter of Ala Uddin of Balia Danga area of the same upazila.
It is known that on January 11, 2010, the police recovered the body of an unidentified woman from Nur Mohammad’s mango garden in Baliadanga area of Nator Sadar Upazila. Jasmin’s photograph and passport were found in the seized documents. The police arrested Jasmine Khatun as a suspect. Later, the police failed to arrest Jasmine’s husband Belal as a suspect. Nuruzzaman, the then sub-inspector (SI) of Nator Sadar police station filed a case with the police station mentioning the names of Jasmine and her husband Belal Hossain in this incident. Belal is absconding since this incident. After investigating the case, the investigating officer gave the charge sheet to the court in the name of Belal and Jasmine. After hearing the case for 13 years, the court judge sentenced them to life imprisonment on Tuesday.
